Vodafone and Digi complete Telekom Romania mobile acquisition

Business Forum
Vodafone Romania has completed the acquisition of Telekom Romania Mobile Communications. This deal sees Vodafone taking control of the majority of Telekom Romania's operations, including its employees, postpaid and business customers, retail network, and most of its network infrastructure.

The acquisition, valued at €30 million, is a significant milestone for the Romanian telecommunications industry, aimed at consolidating the market to enable innovation and substantial future investments.

Vodafone stated that this transaction complements its previous investments of over €6.5 billion in Romania over the past 28 years.

As part of the same transaction, Digi Romania acquired Telekom Romania Mobile Communications' prepaid business, along with certain assets including spectrum licenses and telecommunication towers.

Nedim Baytorun, CEO of Vodafone Romania, said: "Today, Vodafone and Telekom join forces to develop a mobile network of the highest standards, to offer a better experience and access to the latest technologies for families and businesses in Romania."

Serghei Bulgac, CEO of Digi Romania, added: "We welcome Telekom prepaid clients to the DIGI network, the network with the best coverage in Romania, and we will strive to provide them with high-quality services at competitive prices. The transaction is part of our strategic development plan, through which we continually invest in the network and advanced technology to offer all users high-performance connectivity."

The two entities will operate as separate legal entities until a full legal merger, estimated for early 2026.
