The transaction, initially announced in June 2025, was finalised on January 29, 2026.

Medstar now operates under the Sfanta Maria brand, part of the MedLife Group, which primarily serves patients accessing National Health Insurance House (NHIH) services. Through this acquisition, the Sfânta Maria Network strengthens its presence nationally, now operating in 15 counties including Alba, Bucharest, Brăila, Constanța, Craiova, Galați, Bacău, Iași, Timiș, Sibiu, Vrancea, Prahova, Argeș, Dolj and Cluj.

"The completion of the takeover of Medstar marks an important milestone in the MedLife Group's strategy for the development of the Sfanta Maria brand," said Dorin Preda, Deputy CEO of MedLife Group. "We want to build strong medical networks, with solid local roots and with accessible services for as many patients as possible."

Founded in 2004, Medstar operates four clinics, a laboratory, light imaging services and medical recovery facilities in Cluj-Napoca, offering services in over 30 specialties through a team of over 200 doctors and specialists. The company's management remains with the local team to ensure operational continuity.

The Sfanta Maria network currently operates over 60 medical units nationwide and is one of the most important providers of medical services under contract with NHIH. In Bucharest, Sfânta Maria has the largest number of family doctors and specialists under contract with the NHIH, ranking in the top three nationally.
