Romania posts trade surplus with US

Romania's exports to the United States in 2024 exceeded €2.28 billion, while imports from the US reached €1.31 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of €968 million, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS), quoted from Agerpres newswire.

Significant figures for Romanian exports to the US were recorded in the following product categories: semi-finished products of iron or non-alloy steel - €217.8 million; panels, consoles, desks, cabinets, etc. - €169.9 million; radar apparatus - €104 million; seamless tubes, pipes and hollow profiles - €77.1 million; ball, roller or needle bearings - €76 million; electric motors and generators - €72.7 million; strands, cables, plaited bands, slings - €50 million; other alloy steels in ingots or other primary forms - €47 million; liquid pumps - €42.8 million.

At the same time Romania imported from the US products such as: weapons of war, other than revolvers, pistols - €103.6 million; bombs, grenades, torpedoes, mines, missiles, cartridges - €30 million; parts and accessories for weapons of war, for revolvers and pistols, for other firearms and devices using explosive charges, for other weapons - €14.9 million; other aircraft (helicopters, aeroplanes) - €96 million; transmission apparatus for radio-broadcasting or television - €68 million; petroleum/bituminous mineral oils - €68.5 million; turbojets, turbopropellers and other gas turbines - €58.9 million; flat-rolled products of stainless steel - approximately €31 million; well gas and other gaseous hydrocarbons - €25.7 million.

As part of a raft of tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump, exports from the EU will be taxed by an extra 20%. Romanian PM Marcel Ciolacu suggested that Romanian companies could receive national financial support if they are impacted by the US-EU trade war.
