Romania's crude oil production drops on seven months

Romania's crude oil production reached 1.46 million tonnes of oil equivalent (toe) in the first seven months of this year, a decrease of 119,600 toe (7.6%), compared to the same period in 2024, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics (INS).

Over the same period, crude oil imports totalled 5.14 million toe, an year-on-year increase of 906,500 toe (21.4%).

Domestic crude oil production is projected to decline at an average annual rate of 2.5% through 2027, according to the National Commission for Strategy and Prognosis. 

The forecast estimates production to be 2.74 million toe in 2025, a 2.8% drop from the previous year, followed by 2.68 million toe in 2026 (-2.2%) and 2.63 million toe in 2027 (-1.9%). Conversely, crude oil imports are expected to rise to 7.8 million toe by 2027, with an average annual growth rate of 1.5%.
