Rețele Electrice invests €14 million in Bucharest's grid

Business Forum
Rețele Electrice Romania, part of the PPC group in Romania, is investing approximately RON 70 million (€14 million) to upgrade Bucharest's electricity distribution infrastructure, aiming to boost the resilience and transmission capacity of its high-voltage networks.

A key part of this strategy was the recent completion of the modernization of the 110 kV Filaret – Grozăvești high-voltage line, a project worth around RON 22 million (€4.4 million).

This project, financed entirely by company funds, increases the line's transmission capacity to 170 MVA, an increase of about 50 MVA from the previous line. This upgrade will directly benefit approximately 70,000 consumers in sectors 4 and 5 of the city.

For the first time on this line, the Prysmian network monitoring system has been installed, which measures temperature and vibrations to provide real-time information on the infrastructure's condition.

This system is part of a wider digitalization program to introduce similar technology across all modernised high-voltage lines.

The company has several other projects underway to ensure a more stable and resilient distribution service.

These include replacing the 110 kV Pajura – Băneasa, Dr. Taberei – Sălaj, and Panduri – Center lines, which will benefit about 100,000 customers and increase capacity by a total of 240 MVA.
