YESS Power delivers first solar-plus-storage project in Balkans, eyes Romanian expansion

Business Forum
YESS Power, the energy storage brand of Topkapı Endüstri, has delivered a 30MW/60MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) at Mey Energy's 55 MW Novaci solar power plant in North Macedonia.

The project marks the first large-scale battery storage system integrated into a solar power plant in North Macedonia and represents one of the most significant hybrid renewable projects in the Western Balkans.

By storing surplus generation and delivering it during peak demand, the system enhances grid stability and increases the economic efficiency of renewable energy production. As renewable capacity expands across Southeast Europe, storage infrastructure is becoming essential to manage system imbalances and limit short-term price fluctuations.

"The integration of storage solutions is essential for the economic viability of large-scale solar projects and for the stability of energy systems. We see significant potential for hybrid project development across Southeast Europe, and Romania is among the markets we are actively assessing for expansion," said Emre Jabban, Business Development Manager at YESS Power.

The Novaci solar power plant, operational since 2023, has an installed capacity of 55 MW, spans 57 hectares and generates approximately 85 GWh annually, equivalent to the consumption of around 30,000 households. Located near the REK Bitola energy complex, traditionally based on coal-fired generation, the new storage system supports the region's transition toward cleaner energy systems.

YESS Power delivers full engineering, installation, commissioning and after-sales services for the storage segment, in partnership with Cubenergy, one of China's leading battery system integrators.
