Hidroelectrica's investments reach new high in 2025

Business Forum
State-owned power producer Hidroelectrica achieved total investments of RON 781 million (€157 million) in 2025, up 32% compared to 2024, representing the company's best investment volume in years.

This level reflects the acceleration of modernisation, retechnologisation and new production capacity development programmes, in line with the strategy to consolidate Hidroelectrica's position as Romania's renewable energy leader.

The investment performance is particularly relevant as 2025 was marked by the most difficult hydrological conditions in recent history. The first nine months were characterised by reduced hydraulicity that limited production capacity. Hydro production fell 14% compared to 2024, with 2025 recording Romania's lowest hydro production in history.

Despite these conditions, Hidroelectrica recorded solid financial results, confirming the resilience of its business model. The company reports revenues of RON 9.6 billion (€1.93 billion), up 5% from the previous year, and consolidated net profit of RON 3.37 billion (€678 million).

"2025 was one of the most difficult years from a hydrological perspective, but the results confirm we have a solid business model and the Hidroelectrica team's capacity to manage challenges and perform in complex conditions," said Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica. "We continue to invest at an accelerated pace to ensure Romania's energy security and generate sustainable value for our shareholders."

During 2025, Hidroelectrica continued to consolidate its market position, including through developing its supply portfolio. The number of consumption points reached 1.16 million, nearly double compared to the previous year, confirming the attractiveness of the company's offers and consumer confidence.
