The EY AI Sentiment Index, which surveyed over 15,000 people across 15 countries, reveals a similar global disparity: 82% of people use AI, but only 57% feel comfortable doing so.
Romanian companies are primarily investing in AI to automate repetitive tasks (60%) and increase productivity and execution speed (63%).
These strategic priorities are particularly evident in medium and large-sized organizations aiming to streamline operations. However, for widespread adoption, it is essential that leadership cultivates understanding, trust, and autonomy among employees.
Aurelia Costache, Partner, AI & Data Leader, EY Romania, and Ileana Guran, Senior Manager, AI Enabled Transformation, Technology Consulting, EY Romania, wrote in an opinion piece: "To address these challenges, in Romania, we must view AI adoption as a multidisciplinary transformation. Skill enhancement must be a priority at all levels. We cannot forget that we must develop both policies and best practices in AI utilization, good AI governance, and an organizational culture that encourages experimentation and leads to increased human trust in AI and, implicitly, its widespread use."
The primary obstacle is the lack of a skilled workforce (61% of respondents), alongside the absence of professional training programs (37%) and budgetary constraints (52%).
External factors such as insufficient governmental support (78%) and an educational system not adapted to current workforce training requirements (76%) also contribute to hindering progress.
