International flights remain the primary driver of air travel, representing 92.6% of all boarded passengers and 92.4% of those disembarked. Henri Coandă-Bucureşti handled 3,971.8 thousand boarded passengers and 3,882.6 thousand disembarked passengers, while Avram Iancu-Cluj-Napoca saw 810.6 thousand boarded and 788.6 thousand disembarked. Iași International Airport recorded 537.6 thousand boarded passengers and 516.4 thousand disembarked.
In terms of cargo, air freight also saw a positive trend, increasing by 3.0% from 26.2 thousand tonnes to 27.0 thousand tonnes in H1 2025. The top airports for cargo traffic were Henri Coandă-Bucureşti, Avram Iancu-Cluj-Napoca, and Traian Vuia-Timișoara.
International cargo transport holds a significant share, with 93.3% of loaded goods and 96.1% of unloaded goods attributed to international flights.
London-Luton was the most popular airport for both arrivals and departures on regular international flights. Other major destinations for boarded passengers included Milan-Bergamo, Munich, and Brussels-Charleroi.
For passengers arriving in the country, the top airports of origin were also London-Luton, Milan-Bergamo, and Munich. The country has 17 international airports.
