Dorin Bob secures funding for hazelnut plantation in Romania

Business Forum
Local entrepreneur Dorin Bob has secured €4.6 million in EU funding to modernize and digitalize one of Romania's largest hazelnut plantations in Romania.

Bob, who has significant interests in the agri-food and real estate sectors, obtained two European grants to expand agricultural activities in Satu Mare County.

The investment will facilitate the establishment of new hazelnut plantations, the reconversion of an existing orchard, and the installation of advanced irrigation systems and cutting-edge technology.

Currently, Bob owns 460 hectares of hazelnuts in Necopoi and has prepared an additional 211 hectares in Sâi. His goal is to exceed 1,000 cultivated hectares, solidifying his position among the largest players in the field.

"Accessing these European funds is a crucial opportunity for the modernization of Romanian agriculture," stated Bob.

The funding will enable the acquisition of advanced agricultural equipment designed to boost operational efficiency. This includes specialized drones for precise phytosanitary treatments, a multispectral drone for monitoring plant health and soil water content, a GPS guidance and positioning system, and a multifunctional robot with its own guidance system. The project also incorporates a modern fertigation system with advanced software for distributing phytosanitary substances, alongside high-performance agricultural machinery.

The hazelnut crop has become increasingly promising in Romania, especially as major producing countries experience declining yields due to climate change.
