Consortium to install battery storage facility for Hidroelectrica wind farm

Business Forum
Green energy producer Hidroelectrica has announced that a consortium comprising Prime Batteries Technology and Enevo Group will implement a Li-ion battery storage facility at its Crucea Nord wind farm.

The contract awarded following a tender is valued at RON 79.8 million (€16 million) excluding VAT, with an implementation period of 12 months from the contract signing date.

Upon commissioning, the storage facility will have a nominal power of 36 MW and a nominal storage capacity of 72 MWh.

Hidroelectrica owns and operates the wind farm, which has an installed capacity of 108MW and has been in operation since 2014.

This marks a milestone for the company as it undertakes its first Li-ion battery energy storage project.

The primary objectives of this investment include reducing internal imbalances within Hidroelectrica's wind farm portfolio, providing balancing services to the national energy system, enhancing the performance of wind turbines, and decreasing wear and tear on the turbines' electromechanical systems.

Hidroelectrica is the largest producer of green energy in Romania. The company operates 188 power plants with a hydro-energy capacity of 6.4 GW.
