Hidroelectrica shares hit record high

Business Forum
Shares of state-owned power producer Hidroelectrica reached a new historic high of RON 138.40 (€27.17) on 27 January 2026, marking the highest level since the company's listing on the Bucharest Stock Exchange on 12 July 2023.

At this price, Hidroelectrica's market capitalisation reaches RON 62.3 billion (€12.22 billion).

Between 1 September 2025 and 27 January 2026, Hidroelectrica shares appreciated by approximately 14%, reflecting growing investor interest in the company's investment and development strategy, financial stability and medium to long-term prospects.

"The positive evolution of the share price reflects both Hidroelectrica's performance and the market's confidence in our investment and development plan. Since taking over the CEO mandate in September 2025, Hidroelectrica's share value has appreciated significantly, confirming that the decisions taken, strategic projects launched and commitment to responsible and transparent governance create tangible value for both shareholders and the national energy system," said Bogdan Badea, Chairman of Hidroelectrica's Board of Directors.

This stock price evolution is supported by the approval of important strategic initiatives at the Extraordinary General Meeting of Shareholders on 27 January 2026. These include the decision to establish a joint venture company between Hidroelectrica and EDF Power Solutions International, with equal 50% participation from each party. The Shareholders' Agreement was also approved, which will regulate the operation and governance of the joint venture for developing the Tarniţa Pumped Storage Hydroelectric Power Plant project.

During the same meeting, legal consultancy services were approved for both the share capital increase process of Hidroelectrica and the company's objective to acquire the Frasin-Pângăraţi plant with 300 MW installed capacity upon commissioning, a project to be developed by Hidro Blue Energy.

During this period, the company's market capitalisation grew by approximately 14% to €12.22 billion.
