Energy price caps in Romania to end after more than 4 years

Business Forum
The energy price cap scheme for consumers in Romania is ending on Monday, after almost four and a half years, with deregulated prices set to kick in starting tomorrow (July 1).

This means that from Tuesday, the capped prices of RON 0.68/kWh (€0.14/kWh), RON 0.80/kWh (€0.16/kWh), and RON 1.3/kWh (€0.26/kWh), which varied based on consumption.

Consumers will instead pay the prices stipulated in their contracts with their energy providers. According to offers sent to customers, new prices could reach around RON 1.5/kWh (€0.30/kWh).

Last week, the Government approved a monthly assistance of RON 50 (€10) for vulnerable consumers. This aid will be provided as an electronic voucher specifically for paying electricity bills. Around 2.1 million households will receive this support.

The support scheme has a budget around RON 1 billion (€197 million) in the first nine months, until March 31 2026.
