Veolia Romania expands services, acquires local electricity firm

Veolia Romania has completed the acquisition of a majority stake in General Me.el Electric (GME), a specialist in electrical systems, including solar electricity generation and battery storage.

The deal is designed to expand Veolia's service portfolio to include low, medium, and high-voltage electricity services, complementing its existing offerings in water, sewage, gas, and thermal energy. 

Mădălin Mihailovici, CEO of Veolia Romania, said: “The acquisition of General Me.el Electric represents a strategic step for Veolia Romania, through which we continue our investments at the national level and now access a new field, with significant growth potential."

General Me.el Electric has been active for over 30 years and has a portfolio of projects with a total installed capacity of over 200 MW, including a 62 MW photovoltaic park currently under construction. 

The company's business grew by 22% in 2024, reaching €37 million, and it projects a turnover of €50 million in the next five years. Following the transaction, Veolia Romania will integrate GME's entire team of 180 employees, with GME's management retaining a stake in the company.
