New Bucharest bypass segment opens for traffic

The final 18 kilometres of the A0 southern semi-ring road have opened to traffic on Monday, which will enhance highspeed road connectivity in southern Romania.

The route includes four bridges, six road crossings (overpasses), nine highway interchanges, 46 pedestrian passages, two short-term parking areas, and two service areas, according to Aktor, which was the construction contractor for this segment.

"Essentially, we'll be able to drive from Curtea de Argeș to Constanța entirely on the motorway, covering a distance of 395 km. For mid-July, we're aiming to complete the works for the DEx 12 connection – the Craiova - Pitești Express Road – with the A1. Under these conditions, we'll be able to travel from Constanța to Craiova on a total distance of 474 km using a motorway regime," Transport and Infrastructure Minister Ciprian Șerban stated.

The A0 South Motorway plays a positive role in decongesting traffic in the Bucharest area and streamlining transit connections between the west and east of the country, through its direct link between the A1 and A2 motorways, according to Aktor representatives.
