Romgaz seeks consultant for fertilizer producer Azomureș takeover

Business Forum
Romanian state-owned gas producer Romgaz is looking for a consultant for its planned purchase of Azomureș, the biggest fertilizer producer in the country, owned by Swiss agribusiness Ameropa.

Energy Minister Sebastian Burduja said he issued a mandate to Romgaz to analyze the transaction.

If the deal is completed, the local economy will benefit from domestic gas as well as from local production of fertilizers for agriculture, according to the minister.

Azomureș has largely halted production in the past three years due to high gas prices.

Romgaz is currently working with OMV Petrom on the Neptun Deep block in the Black Sea, where gas production is expected to start in 2027.

Shares in Romgaz were up 0.51% to RON 5.96 at the opening of trading on the Bucharest Stock Exchange (BVB) on Friday morning.
