Romanian currency gains ground against euro, US dollar

The Romanian leu was up on Monday against the main foreign currencies, starting to recover some of the losses recorded in the past weeks over political uncertainties.

The national currency appreciated against the euro on Monday, with the National Bank of Romania (BNR) calculating the rate at RON 5.0315, a decrease of 1.41% compared to the previous rate.

The leu also gained ground against the US dollar, which was quoted at RON 4.4631, down by -2.05% compared to Friday. 

The national currency also appreciated against the Swiss franc, falling by 1.64% to RON 5.3581.

The price of a gram of gold decreased by 1.12% to RON 464.98, from the previous session.

The Romanian leu and the stock exchange gained strength on Monday, hours after Romanians elected a new President.
