Southern Europe is a top travel destination for Romanians this summer

Business Forum
Three out of four Romanians traveling abroad this summer have chosen Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, or Italy as their destination, finds a recent CEC Bank survey, conducted in partnership with FinZoom.ro.

The poll, which surveyed around 1,200 internet users across Romania, also found that only one in six Romanians plan to spend their holiday outside of the country.

Greece emerged as the top choice, attracting 26% of respondents. It was followed by Bulgaria (17%), Turkey (15.4%), and Italy (13%). Other destinations like Spain (7%), Egypt (5%), and France (2.5%) saw significantly lower percentages.

When it comes to transportation, the personal car is the most popular choice, used by 54.5% of those surveyed. The train is a distant second at 22.42%, while the coach and plane are used by 12% and 11% of travellers, respectively.

The survey also sheds light on how Romanians finance their holidays. Over 77% of respondents save money throughout the year. A smaller portion borrow from friends (9%), use holiday vouchers (under 7%), or rely on a credit card/overdraft (almost 5%). In terms of holiday budgets, 42% of respondents reported a decrease of 10% to 30% compared to last year.

A significant number of travellers still prefer cash payments, with over 38% planning to pay exclusively with cash. About 22% will use a combination of cash and card. For international card payments, CEC Bank offers a solution for its customers.
