Hidroelectrica has completed the procurement procedure for seven 216 MVA, 15.75/242 kV transformers, equipment necessary for safe operation and continued modernisation of the Porțile de Fier I Hydroelectric Power Plant.

The open tender procedure, with an estimated value of nearly €23.7 million excluding VAT, was initiated on 23 September 2025 and conducted through the Electronic Public Procurement System. Following evaluation of offers, the contract was awarded to Siemens Energy, which achieved the maximum score and submitted a financial offer worth approximately €23.4 million excluding VAT.

The acquisition is part of the company's investment programme for modernising equipment and maintaining technical performance at the Porțile de Fier I Hydroelectric Power Plant, the most important production unit in Hidroelectrica's portfolio.

"Modernising and consolidating energy infrastructure represents a strategic priority for Hidroelectrica. The acquisition of these high-power transformers for Porțile de Fier I is part of the company's constant effort to ensure installation reliability, increase operational efficiency and maintain the highest safety standards in operating vital energy facilities for the national energy system," said Bogdan Badea, CEO of Hidroelectrica.

The power plant is among Hidroelectrica's most important production units, contributing significantly to the company's total electricity generation. Located on the Danube River, the plant has an installed capacity of approximately 1,166 MW on the Romanian side, making it the largest hydroelectric plant operated by Hidroelectrica. Under normal hydrological conditions, it can produce an average of 4-5 TWh of electricity annually.
