Marriott International looks to boost Romanian portfolio

Business Forum
Marriott International plans to expand its presence in Romania by adding five new properties and over 550 rooms by the end of 2028.

The expansion plans include the expected opening of a Residence Inn by Marriott in Bucharest's Cosmopolis area, introducing the extended-stay brand to Romania.

Additionally, the Four Points by Sheraton brand is set to enter the market with a new hotel in Cluj-Napoca, a city known for its rich historical and archaeological sites.

Ivan Kiseev, Senior Director, International Hotel Development, CEE & CIS, Marriott International, stated: “Romania's decentralised economic growth, strong regional hubs and increasing domestic and international travel, has positioned the country as one of the most dynamic hospitality markets in Central and Eastern Europe”.

“With its current operations and strong development pipeline, Marriott remains committed to diversifying its brand portfolio across urban and leisure destinations in the market to offer business, leisure and extended stay travellers a wide spectrum of experiences,” he added.

Marriott will also continue to expand its Courtyard by Marriott brand with planned openings in Timișoara, Sibiu, and Călimănești-Căciulata.

Currently, Marriott International operates six properties in Romania, offering over 1,380 rooms in Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca. The company's portfolio in Romania includes five brands: JW Marriott, Sheraton, Autograph Collection, Moxy Hotels, and Courtyard by Marriott.
