GTC's City Gate secures LEED Gold v5 certification

Business Forum
The South Tower of City Gate in Bucharest, developed and managed by GTC, has been awarded the LEED Gold v5 certificate. This is the latest version of the world's green building standard, outlining steps towards near-zero carbon emissions, prioritizing people, and supporting building resilience. City Gate is the first property in Romania and only the fourth existing building in Europe to achieve this recognition, following projects in Italy, Spain, and Sweden.

City Gate is one of the most prominent business hubs in the Romanian capital. Located in the northern part of the city, next to the Romexpo exhibition centre, the complex consists of two 18-storey towers with nearly 48,000 sqm of office space. The property is powered 100% by renewable energy and underwent a major refurbishment in 2022 of common areas, including the lobby, as well as upgraded building systems with a new ventilation system ensuring indoor air quality.

City Gate is equipped with a media monitoring and control system, LED lighting in common areas operated by motion sensors, charging stations for electric vehicles, and dedicated facilities for cyclists, including parking spaces, showers, lockers, and a bike service station.

"We are proud to provide our tenants with a modern workplace environment that combines people's needs with responsible resource management," said Gabriela Cirstea, Asset Manager at GTC Romania.

The North Tower of City Gate also holds a LEED Gold certificate, historically being the first building in Bucharest to receive this recognition. With over 30 years of experience in sustainable real estate, GTC reduced its CO2 emissions by approximately 20% year-on-year in 2024, and 98% of its commercial portfolio is now certified under LEED, BREEAM and DGNB or under recertification process.
