PPC Renewables adds large battery storage to Romanian wind farm

Business Forum
PPC Renewables Romania will develop a 60.12 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) at the Sălbatica 1 wind farm.

The project has a total value of €13.6 million, with approximately €2 million covered by European funding through the Modernisation Fund.

The project is part of PPC Renewables Romania's plan to expand its renewable energy portfolio with projects that can help reduce Romania's power generation capacity deficit and enhance system stability through predictable production enabled by battery energy storage.

The Sălbatica 1 and Sălbatica 2 wind farms comprise 70 wind turbines of 2 MW each. Once commissioned, the BESS system will contribute to electricity storage capacities within the National Power System and increase the flexibility and efficiency of energy produced from renewable sources.

The project includes construction of infrastructure elements, operational roads, access and fencing, safety lighting and monitoring systems, as well as areas for operation, maintenance and security. The Modernisation Fund covers 28.24% of eligible costs, while PPC Renewables Romania contributes the remaining amount.

In Romania, PPC Renewables operates over 1.5 GW of installed capacity and continues to expand its portfolio through large-scale projects, making it the largest private producer of renewable energy in Romania. The PPC Group aims to reach 12.7 GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2028.
